Symbols of Ireland
Bog Cotton is uniquely symbolic of the Irish landscape, in particular the damp peaty ground of Connemara, where I live. Each June, this magical carpet of white appears across the land, and I smile. I have created many bog cotton pictures before, but this time my interpretation is of the rarely appreciated single stalk.
A mixture of Irish and merino wools, with the addition of tussah silk to represent the bog cotton.
Tree of Life
My finally finished 'Tree of Life' piece will hang in the @feltmakersireland exhibition 'Opposites Attract' in the visitors centre, Phoenix Park, for the month of May. The Tree of Life represents the connection between heaven and earth, while the angel acts as the messenger between the worlds. The blossoms were inspired by my visit to Washington DC in March, where I saw the cherry blossoms in bloom in the Tidal Basin. A pure delight. These blossoms again continue the theme of life and death but add the element of renewal.
